Who are we?

Geoff Dixon in the workshop

Geoff trained alongside Tom at Rycotewood Furniture College where he studied fine furniture manufacture and design. Upon graduation, and over the next decade, Geoff gained valuable experience and skills working for a number of different furniture and joinery workshops where he found high-quality joinery and furniture making very challenging and enjoyable. During this period he also met his wife Jessica who worked as a furniture designer for one of these workshops. With the support of Jessica, he then set up his own business making bespoke pieces from abstract coffee tables to solid oak staircases. He managed to persuade his good friend Tom to join forces to create a formidable partnership of complementary skills and Dixon Balston Design was born.

Tom began his training at Rycotewood Furniture College where he met and became firm friends with Geoff.  He continued his education at Buckinghamshire University where he obtained a degree in Furniture Design and Craftsmanship. Tom's interest in wood craft began when he was at school, as he spent his weekends working as a wood turner near his home in Aberdeenshire. With 20 years in furniture manufacture in several furniture making workshops and a stint in site furniture fitting under his tool belt, Tom's calm and patient nature lends itself to creating the detailed one-off furniture pieces that he loves.

After completing a degree in Furniture and Product design, Jessica worked for an architect and a cabinet making workshop which is where she first met Geoff and Tom. Over the last 8 years she has worked for a company in London where she designs and project manages high end kitchens and furniture installations. In her spare time she uses her drawing and design skills to help Dixon Balston Design.
